I wanted to tell you the following little story because it pertains to books and the business of buying them.
My friend Joel Miller at his superlative Substack on books called Miller’s Book Review recently reviewed Martin Puchner’s Culture: The Story of us from Cave Art to K-Pop
The review made me think of the Bob Dylan album title, Love and Theft (which is from a book by Eric Lott) led me to the wikipedia entry for the album and the following tidbit “Love and Theft generated controversy when some similarities between the album's lyrics and Japanese writer Junichi Saga's book Confessions of a Yakuza were pointed out.”
This led me to want to read this book, Confessions of a Yakuza. I bring this up because as much as I love the organic way you discover books in a book store there is also book discovery on the internet. Of course, that’s a bit of a “No Duh, what do you think those midnight rabbit trails are for?” but nonetheless it fascinates me. I love the act of finding a book.
How is Confessions of a Yakuza? It’s a tight little memoir of a tough man navigating the world of gambling and prison. That’s about it.
How do you find books? Let us know in the comments!
I love the act of finding a book too!!
